One of the big concerns of the museum staff is
how to make sure that different people’s perspectives are included throughout
the exhibit, such as Native Americans, colonists, the British and immigrants. Many
areas of the exhibit focus more on male perspectives – what men were doing and thinking.
In order show the importance of women in Fairfield’s history, museum staff made
sure to create specific places where the stories of women can be told.
This section of the exhibit includes four male silhouettes pursuing different opportunities. The hope was to make one of them a woman and museum staff looked for stories about women to include. Yet there were not enough objects or information about any one single woman from that time period, so all of those narratives are about men.
