Footnote #14
According to the Fairfield Museum staff the
title of an exhibition is “like a thesis statement” -- it gives visitors ideas
about what to expect. The title of Creating Community: Exploring 375 Years of
Our Past was chosen to reflect the contributions of all members of
Fairfield’s community and to look at how the community has changed over
time. Even though a lot of time,
research, and planning went into creating this exhibition, the museum staff
can’t be sure that it will work out exactly as they had planned. One member of the staff said that the exhibit
is “like when you write a symphony and you first perform it, it might not all
come together.” It is difficult for the staff to know exactly how visitors will
react to the exhibit.
