Footnote #7
In this section, the staff decided to tell a
story of what was happening in Fairfield in comparison to the rest of the
country through the stories of four men – Jennings, Morehouse, Sherwood, and
Betts.
The story about Morehouse was replaced by Oliver B. Jennings because they did not have enough information to tell Morehouse’s full story. Betts was then replaced by Walter Perry because the staff thought Perry had a more interesting story that covered a wider view of the past. They included Isaac Jennings because of the sheer number of objects in the collections that tell the story of his interesting maritime career. This shows the importance of historical research and the background information available on specific objects: the staff can only share what they know based on the collections they have and the stories they can tell.
