Footnote #11
One unique part of this exhibit is the use of
questions posed to visitors, such as “Would you have been a loyalist or a patriot?”
The museum staff use these questions to reinforce its educational mission. As
the museum has expanded its educational programs and more and more students
visit, it became even more important to focus on the needs of student visitors
(in 2006 there were 1500 student visitors and in 2012 there were 5,000 student
visitors). In fact, the exhibit designer – someone who helped design the look
and feel of the exhibit– was chosen because of his experience designing
exhibits for children. Asking questions
is an important way to learn, so the staff created these questions to help visitors
identify with important decisions that people in the past had to make.
